2014 September

September 1st

So the day of Dave’s departure has finally arrived.  We are up and on the road in plenty of time to arrive at the Newport Beach Pier before sunrise, just as Dave had planned.  We park the car and he begins preparing his backpack for the start of his epic journey.

Final stop before our last goodbye….Seaside Donuts Bakery….no turning back now!

September 11-13

After Dave’s departure, Roberta returned to Glen Eden Resort in Corona, California for about a week before beginning her own”epic journey” back to Colorado.  Being just after the Labor Day weekend, the resort seemed very empty all of a sudden!

Roberta’s first stop was Oak Glen Retreat in Yucaipa, California, where she made her first on-the-road friend.

From there Roberta headed north to the Bay Area to visit her oldest son, Kevin.

September 16-19

Roberta camped at Trailer Haven in San Leandro, California, close to Oakland where Kevin and his girlfriend, Vanessa, had just moved into a new apartment.

Dinner one night with Kevin, Vanessa, and Johann (Kevin’s dad).  A bike ride around Oakland’s Lake Merritt,  Cleveland Cascade, and downtown Berkeley, then breakfast at La Note Cafe.  It was a wonderful few days of visiting!!

And the biggest, best event of September 19, 2014……………

Roberta left Oakland, heading for Golden, Colorado.  It was a long drive for her, but it was not without some beautiful scenery and interesting stops along the way…….

While in Provo, the gray water tank pump failed so it was impossible to empty the gray water tank.  With several more days to go on the road, something had to be done about it. There were no RV repair shops in the area that could do it in the needed time frame, so Dave decided to “coach” Roberta through the process of creating at least a temporary fix, via the telephone and Skype.  The result?  A masterpiece of sorts!!
